2010 Upgrade Information

A major upgrade was released 6/21/2010. This upgrade includes significant enhancements in the following areas:

  1. Response times performance is now measured in seconds.
  2. Following new standards performance comparisons are enable by incident type.
  3. A new "Data Split" feature has been integrated into analysis.
  4. A new "Worksheet" analyzer has been added.
  5. The 1710 Analyzer has been revised and upgraded.
  6. A new "Effective Force" analyzer has been added.
  7. Performance may now be compared to activity load.
  8. A new web-based Activity / Performance Timeline has been added.
  9. Record sets may now be named, saved and reused.
  10. Heat map exports have been added.

A new 7-digit upgrade number is required to upgrade to the latest version of NFIRS 5 Alive. If your fire department's support plan is current you may request an upgrade serial number and follow the instructions below. You may also upgrade if you choose to enroll in a support plan.

To receive a formal support plan price quote click on the Price Quote page and complete the price quote form. A quote will be prepared and forwarded. Support may be paid by purchase order or by major credit card. If you wish to pay for support by credit card please let us know. An email invoice with a link to a secure on-line payment site will be created and forwarded.

Upgrade Instructions

You must have your new 7-digit upgrade serial number before beginning this upgrade.

The upgrade process is very simple, but you must determine your software version first.

Open NFIRS 5 Alive. In the lower right corner of the main window you should see a version ID in small red letters. If the ID begins with the following letters:  "L1.2004...", use the Upgrade 2004 instructions to upgrade 2004 software. If the ID begins with "L1.2003...", use the Upgrade 2003 instructions to upgrade 2003 software.

NOTE:  You must be able to view your file extensions to see the full name of your files. If you don't see the file extensions ".4DC" or ".RSR" you are hiding your file extensions. Here's how to show your file extensions for this upgrade:

Follow these instructions ONLY if you cannot view your file extensions.

Vista & Windows 7

1. Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.
2. Click the View tab, and then, under Advanced settings, do one of the following:
3. To display file extensions, clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.

XP
1. Double Click on My Computer. Click on Tools, Folder Options... in the menus.
2. Click on the View tab.
3. Remove the Check from "Hide extensions for known file types".

 

2004 Upgrade Instructions

1. Download and "Save" the zipped upgrade files at the following URL:

2. Extract the zipped folder into a folder containing two files;
"N5Alive.4DC" and "N5Alive.RSR".


3. Remove your original "N5Alive.4DC" and "N5Alive.RSR" files from the application folder or from the "Database" sub-folder inside the application folder. Put these files into the Recycle Bin, but do not empty the Recycle Bin until you know the upgrade is OK.


4. Put the upgrade files "N5Alive.4DC" and "N5Alive.RSR" files into your "Database" sub-folder or in the same location as the older files of the same name.


5. Restart NFIRS 5 Alive. When requested enter your new 7-digit serial number.

 

2003 Upgrade Instructions

1. Press the "Free Demo" link. Download the demo and install it in a new folder under "Documents". Make sure you install it in a new folder and do not overwrite any existing NFIRS 5 Alive installation. Test the demo. Use your original license document to license the new installation. When requested enter your new serial number. When the demo has been successfully licensed quit the application.


 2. From your existing NFIRS 5 Alive installation folder COPY the "N5Alive.4dd" and "N5Alive.4dr" data files (these files may be in a "Database" subdirectory).

 
 3. Open the new NFIRS 5 Alive upgrade folder. Locate the "Database" sub-folder. Open the "Database" sub-folder. Remove the demos data files "N5Alive.4DD" and "N5Alive.4DR"

 
 4. Put your copies of your data files "N5Alive.4DD" and "N5Alive.4DR" files into the "Database" sub-folder of the new installation.


 5. Start the new NFIRS 5 Alive application. If requested reenter your new 7-digit upgrade serial number.
